Beautiful yet tragic pictures from Bruce Davidson's photo essay of Brooklyn Gang "The Jokers". Taken in 1959 after befriending the gang and becoming immersed in their culture, he captures the evocative cool of 1950s America on the edge of a cultural revolution. These pictures manage to give a sense of toughness and innocence of the gang, to which many of them came to sad endings through drugs and violence. Truly haunting, magnificent images.
On monday I went to the NPG to see an exhibition of Hollywood portraits celebrating the industry's "Golden Age". I saw some beautiful timeless pictures of stars like Rita Hayworth, Marlon Brando and the late Elizabeth Taylor. All the ladies had flawless skin and they're dresses were so elegant ....siiiiiiigh. Well worth a visit!
If I were ever to climb Mount Everest I would sure need a good guide to read before hand. Luckily my lovely friend Jo gave me this book which has the most gorgeous cover. So I would have a lovely designed book on the slopes but perhaps not the most up-to-date book, oh well, its just as well there no way in hell I will ever be climbing Mount Everest.
